Bob and Ann Years Open: 8
Owner
"In 2002, we adopted a puppy named Buster from Happy Tails Animal
Rescue," Ann says. "We quickly found, Buster has only two speeds:
fast and off. We could walk him until our legs fell off, but it did not
begin to make a dent in Buster's energy.
We began taking Buster to local dog parks and found that these trips were
our favorite part of the day. Letting Buster run and play at the park
not only got him the exercise he needed, it was a nice social outlet for
us as well and we found other dog lovers to be among the finest people
we've ever met.
When we found the Camp Bow Wow franchise, we found our new home. We left
our corporate lives, opened our first camp in Troy in 2004, our second
camp in Commerce in 2008, and we've been happy campers ever since.
The business allows us to provide an alternative to the traditional kennel,
letting dogs enjoy mental and physical exercise all day. Having two open
camps now is the fulfillment of a dream...but, we can't wait to open
our third!"
Ann and Bob own three rescue dogs. Buster, their first (and their inspiration
behind getting into Camp Bow Wow!) is a thirteen-year-old Laberjackle
(Lab, Jack Russell, Beagle mix). Their second, Ellie, is a twelve-year-old
Aussie/cocker spaniel mix. Their newest addition, Link, is a three-year-old
mini long haired dapple Dachschund who was recently rescued from a hoarding
situation.
Ann and Bob regularly work with several local rescues to place shelter
dogs in their forever homes. "I want to make the world a better place
for dogs and their people," Ann says.
"There are many rewarding aspects of the job," Bob says. "Hiring
and developing young people is very rewarding. If I can prepare young
people to move on with a better set of skills than they had before they
came on board, I feel I have done my job."
