  • Avery Years Open: 1 Owner

Avery Lea Griffin, owner, operator, and manager of Camp Bow Wow South Asheville, North Carolina, was born on the United States Air Force Base in Homestead, Florida. In 2015 Avery started taking a foster dog, Zeus, to daycare at the Camp Bow Wow in Covington, Louisiana. By day three of dropping Zeus at day care, Avery decided she wanted her own camp. Finally in March 2017, her dream came true and she owned Camp Bow Wow South Asheville.

Avery has been rescuing dogs for over 20 years. Generally, her foster furbaby numbers ran in the single digits; however, at one point she fostered 18 dogs on her farm. In 2015, she rescued a momma dog from animal control, who gave birth the next day to 8 bouncing babies, all of which found loving furever homes. In addition to rescuing dogs, Avery ran rescue transports for 15 years. She has two furbabies of her own, Buddy, the boxer, and Hunter, the lab/ridgeback mix. Buddy was her first foster failure in 2008 and Hunter, her last in 2013. Avery remains active in the Asheville area dog rescue community.

Avery graduated with a bachelor of science in finance from the University of Alabama, a master of business administration from Tulane University, and a law degree from Loyola University. In 2013, Avery piloted her horse, Her Boy Wonder, to a national championship as the USEF’s Amateur Owner Hunter Horse of the Year. After 25 years, Avery retired from practicing law and her equestrian pursuits to open her own Camp Bow Wow.
